Fishing at Minimere

Well here are the promised photo's from Minimere taken the middle of March.
The one above is Jay hooked up to a big barra.

Mark Sullivan having a cast.
This waterhole is only accessible by chopper at this
time of year and it is the only time that you can catch
Barra like this any other time you can fish for
a week an be lucky to get a bite.
I am so annoyed as this would have been a good shot.
My camera had been in the office in the air-conditioning
so when I came out into the heat to take a photo it all fogged up.
It took ages to clear. Here is Mark, Jay and John standing
in front of some barra they caught, they had a couple of the local
lads along with them as well.

This was taken towards the end of March.
This chopper actually went down last week in winds off
that cyclone, no one was hurt luckily but the chopper
was totaled.

Now to fillet.............

The staff kitchen had a good feed and the freezers are full.
We had some last night and we found them a bit weedy
after being used to the sea fish, but everyone else reckons they
are great!
Hope you enjoy the photo's Gus.

Fishing at Roper Bar 2008

Jay with a beautiful Barra.
After loading the photos for the Roper Bar post earlier in the day I
remembered I had some shots that John had taken saved on the computer,
so I thought I would show you what we have caught at the Roper in
previous years. This was I think Easter 2008.

Afternoon at Bella Glen

I had a friend come out and visit for a few days on the holidays and
so did Jay, so I thought we would do a run out to Bellla Glen so I
could show Margaret and take the boys for a swim. The weather
had already cooled up so Margaret and I gave it a miss, and I
got the camera out to get a few shots. which was great, of course
the boys did a bit of hamming up for the camera.
This is the tree thy all climb up to either swing off or jump off.
Mmmm is that a flying fox, oh wait a minute that's Jay.

Is that 3 Monkey's in a tree?
Yah know what? I think it is..........
Going....................
Gone!

This one is Lane Hockey
watching on.....
There is no way he
was going in after
he saw the crocs in
the water when we arrived!
Luckily they were only little
freshies, I wasn't quite sick
of my boys at this stage
that I would feed
them to the crocs!

This is Margaret Hyndman

Why so worried Jay?
This photo so reminds me of his father........

A couple of shots from Minimere a couple of weekends ago.

Lyn, Jamie, Jay Todd and John swimming at Minimere.
Walking to the deep holes.

John having a troll at Minimere.
When Todd and Jamie came back from fishing the other day, Todd said there
is no way he was going out again as a 15ft croc tailed them in the boat
Too Scary. He never worried us before, but is getting a bit cheeky.

Life....

I'm on crutches at the moment. Silly me was carrying a big box of groceries down
the steps of the shop in the community, which are quite steep and dangerous at
the best of times, when over I went! Some little gem had dropped a full ice-cream
on the steps and just left it there and because I was carrying the box, I didn't see
it, so down I went. Like a bag of ......potatoes! My left leg stayed behind me and my
foot twisted up under me. It's either pulled muscles or a hairline fracture, so fun
and games on crutches.
I took Todd and Jamie up to Darwin to catch the plane back out to Rockhampton
on Friday and had of course a list of jobs to complete for John and the station.
We went and had Thai for tea and then went and saw My Best Friends Girl at the
movies - It is so funny (a bit crude in places) but I could not stop laughing!

Lyn and I stayed an extra night, so it was lovely to go for a shop in the
morning and then lay beside the pool with a cocktail in the afternoon, and met up with a friend for tea, (I had MudCrab Lasagne...YUM!) it was so relaxing and so
what I needed, instead of dropping my boy off at the airport and driving the 61/2
hrs home.

We went out to Bella Glen late Thursday afternoon to have a swim and give Lyn
a look as she hadn't been there. Here's Jay hamming it up for the camera! Climbing the tree to jump in the water. I know it's a shock, but here's Todd trying to push Jay in. (doesn't sound like my boys!)Jay got rope burn the first time he tried it last year, here he's working up the courage to do it again. He did it easy!

Bella Glen

I thought I would load a few more photos from the June holidays.
These are a few shots of the kids swimming again. The spot is
called Bella Glen and is really pretty. The spot is full of little
freshwater crocs, which doesn't seem to worry the kids.
Now me I'm quite content to watch! The one above is Macca in mid
air and shows you the height they were swinging from.

Here is another one of Macca in Mid Air (too cheeky)!
See the beautiful rockfaces behind.
Here is
Todd about
to take
off!

Up to Minnimere Again.

We have had friends here for the last couple of weeks for the holidays and the company has been great! We took them up to Minnimere for a look for the day and it was so relaxing, the kids swam and we had a barbie lunch and the men took the tinnie out for a run.

How's this for a great shot. My best friend Fiona who lives in Weipa, takes the
most beutiful photo's. My computers chokka's so expect heaps on here over
the next couple of weeks.

I probably shouldn't show this...

But I will!
Gillian and I were having a joke on our way out to Edith falls about
hope there's no tourists in black ____ togs, if you know what
I mean. Anyway we had a good old giggle about it.
We were the only ones there when we got there and set ourselves up,
when bout 1/2 hr later a bus full of tourists pull up. Now they
all walked along and saw us and a group of 3 noisy kids and kept
walking around the path to the other area. All that is except
one guy, who proceeded to seat himself in the middle of us
and proceeded to undress down to his.............d___k togs. LOL!
Well we couldn't contain ourselves, and I'm not sure what he thought
we were laughing at. Then when he got out he stood behind a tree
that was only 1/2 the size of him to get changed. I don't think
he realised that the kids around the other side could see him
quite cleary, there conversation they were having went silent
straight away, and when I called out to them to come and have
a sausage sandwich, they couldn't stop giggling. I must admit
neither could Gillian and I.
She's evil that woman, she leads me astray.

Are there crocs in the waterholes?

Yvonne Bauer and her girls (Brunchilly Station) were asking if there were any crocs in the waterholes. Yes! There is. We swim in the waterholes that are in the rocks, they are like big swimming pools. The water is fairly clear and you can see to the bottom. We swim in a couple of bigger waterholes that the locals sometimes swim in, that we know no crocs are in, we're always looking around though. LOL

Here is one of the smaller holes.
