A combined challenge.

Well I thought I would combine my challenges
on this one and include the colour challenge
# 10 that Alisa Turner has on her blog at the
moment to use the colours Purely Pomegranate,
Royal Rose and Garden Green, and then
Mel Hanlon's technique challenge #13
was to make a 3" x 3" Trifold Card.

Here is a photo of the trifold shut, I used the Saleabration
set Botanical Blooms. I stamped the Garden Green card
with the leaf stamps in the Garden Green Ink, then did
the trifold. I stamped the Whisper White with
the flowers in Regal Rose and stamped the leaves with the
Garden Green, then backed it with Regal Rose card and
Purely Pomegranate card, which I slightly distressed
around the edges. The Regal Rose ribbon was applied to the
final card and the stamped image applied to the card.

Here is a view of the card opened.

The inside was stamped again with the leaves and a flower from the set as
well as the sentiment from the set. Then again backed with the RR and PP
SU card and applied to the garden green card. Thanks for the challenge,
Alisa it was good to use the Garden Green, I don't use it as I tend towards
Wild Wasabi, or Old Olive, but now that I used it I REALLY like it!
And Mel well I've never made one of these and it was fun,
the only real challenge was the size, I found it hard to do 3"
as I like everything big! LOL
Thanks again for the challenges girls.

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #47

I thought I would give Kristina Werner's latest colour challenge a go.

These colours just cried out to me to give
the Stampin Up set All Aboriginal another go. I have used this
stamp before and find it very limiting, but I am quite pleased
how this one turned out. I used SU Whisper White for the card
itself and cut the corners with the corner rounder. I then
stamped the flower design from the SU Saleabration set Polka
Dot Punches in Choc Chip on Only Orange as my stock of the new
in colours is yet to arrive. I've gotta say when I saw this
set and this stamp specifically it made me think of using it
with the all aboriginal set. I know it's meant to be a flower
but it looks so much like a symbol that a lot of the
aboriginals put in their paintings, it also made me think
of their weaving they do with Pandanus leaves.
Here is one I have on the wall in my lounge that some of the local
Aboriginal women gave me. This is quite big, it is about a metre x
a metre.
So back to the card, I then used my sigmo white pen to highlight some
of the dots on each flower, I then used the corner rounder on this card
as well. I put some of the SU Choc Chip stitched ribbon down one side
and adhered the card to my base card.
Next I got the goanna stamp from the set and coloured it with my Choc
Chip, Only Orange and So Saffron markers and stamped it on So
Saffron card and backed it with Choc Chip and applied it on the orange
card. Last of all I stamped Thank You from the SU Spring Solitude set
in SU Craft white cut it out a little different and then put the stitching
around the edge with the sigmo pen.
Voila! I will be using this combo quite a bit from now on.

Thanks for the challenge Kristina.

I just can't resist that crayon resist!

While my sister was here I wanted to show her the Crayon Resist
Technique. We stamped up an A4 piece of gloss card with the retired
SU set Floral Fest. We stamped the flowers with Stazon then sponged
them with Buckaroo Blue, Purely Pomengrate, Wild Wasabi, Chameo Coral
and Sky Blue SU Inks.

This card we used the retired SU BG stamp Crosshatch with Buckaroo Blue ink
on '08 in colour card Blue Bayou. We matted Purely Pomengrate card at the
top and wild wasabi at the bottom. We used puches small oval for the wild
wasabi and word window with the Chameo coral. I stamped the Happy
Birthday with a Hero Arts Pixie words set. We finished it off with a couple of
leaves on the wording and an extra flower that has been raised on top of the
other flowers.

It is really hard to photo the gloss paper, and I didn't have time to play
around. For this one we stamped the Purely Pomengrate with the outline
stamp in the PP ink. Backed the gloss with Groovy Guava and Wild
Wasabi, then stamped Happy Birthday from the SU retired set Warmest
Regards with Basic Black ink then punched out using the large oval punch
and tied on using gold cord. This one is very straightforward it is layered onto black, PP, Wild Wasabi
and Blue Bayou the stamp which is from stamp world is stamped on in
Basic Black.

The last one is similar it is backed with PP and WW which has been punched
using the new border scallop punch then put onto a Blue Bayou Card.
Another flower was cut out and raised at the bottom, then it was stamped
with Happy Birthday from the SU retired set Warmest Regards.

Well hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed making them.
This is one technique that always wows new stampers and I'm glad my sister
and I had a play at it.

A Quickie!

Well you are probably thinking you've seen this card before. That's because
you have! My sister really liked the look of it and wanted to make a couple
to have on hand for kid's birthdays.
My original card is at the back and as I had no more of the DP left, I showed
her how to use 2-3 colours using a background stamp to get a similar effect.
This was done using the crosshatch stamp, using orange, blue and green
stamp pads.

Buggy Best Wishes

Here is a card created with the bugs and kisses set. I made this
card with my sister while she was here, it is so bright IRL.
Short and sweet today, as not feeling too well. I am chasing a very
sore throat and a really bad, constant headache.

We are trying to finalise budgets for next year and work out what
we are going to spend on this years budget before the end of the
year.

John reckons there is not enough hours in the day, but I told him
if there where anymore hours in the day we'd be dead, cause we
would never stop!

Anyway thanks for looking.

luv,'Kristy

A mistake I love

While my sister was here I made some cards with her using the Crayon
Resist technique, and we had a little strip left that we were trying to put
into a card.
I had this great idea in my head, and this background is what I came
up with. We stamped the background of the card (Chameo Coral)
with Certainly Celery, then coloured the flowers, etc with pastels.
But when we put the CR piece of card on it just looked so wrong
and too busy, so the base card was put aside.
So as we kept stamping the base card kept catching my eye, I just
had to do something with it. So I got the very vanilla and punched
out the oval and stamped the flower and leaves from the SU set Flower
Fest and Best Wishes from the Short and Sweet set, backed the cream
with brocade blue and put a Brocade Blue ribbon on it.

Walla! This is what I finished up with. IRL the colours are
so much prettier.

And from a reject I was pretty happy with the finished card.

Happy Birthday to my Father In-law

Well I know he reads my blog on the odd occasion, so if you are a
happy birthday from all of us up here in the North.

John turned 50 the day after our wedding, so his age and birthday
is one I never forget.

Hope you have a great day.

luv,
Kristy

Our Wedding Anniversary

Well it's hard to believe we have been married 18 years today.
John informs me you only get 7 for murder! Ha Ha.... (don't tempt me)

No seriously I fall more in love with my husband every year.
I have been so lucky to find my best friend and soul mate.

With Jay away, we had a romantic dinner planned, but we both are
chasing off sore throats and headaches at the moment and are obviously
coming down with what Jay had last week, that we ended
up working till late finalising budgets and eating a toasted chicken
sandwich. Now how romantic is that!

We've promised ourselves a night out next trip to Darwin.

Chit Chat

I went to Katherine for the day yesterday, took Jay up to Residential
which is camp for the week for the School of the Air highschool kids.
They camp at the rural college and get up to all sorts of exciting stuff.
Jay was so excited he didn't even say goodbye. (that is till his mother
gave him a big kiss goodbye) awwww mum! LOL

Lyn (governess) went off on the bus up to Darwin and at this time
this morning should be sitting in Cairns, lucky bugger. Jay has finished his work
for the semester, so with school camp and having finished his school
work, Lyn gets an extra 2 weeks off.

So the groceries were shopped for and off I set for home. It's only a
3 hour drive, but after 3 hours there and running around doing jobs
all day and 3 hours home, then unpacking all of the groceries, it makes
for a very long day.

Anyway we are in for a very busy week. I have read on a couple of
blogs that demonstrators have been receiving their catalogues, I will
be waiting at the airstrip tomorrow with bated breath. Hopefully my
pre-ordered stamps will be there as well.

Hope everyone has a good day, talk to you tomorrow.

luv,
Kristy

Goodbye giraffe

Well this is a take I did on the card for Mel's last challenge, less the ribbon and of
course a different colout.
Makes for a nice quick baby card. It is a real shame this set is retiring.

Funny Eggs

Another easter card. Another one, that once I started I just couldn't stop.

These hens are a Penny Black stamp called Funny Eggs. I love the Penny Black
stamps, I have quite a few of them. I haven't been using my other stamps much
since I have started doing SU, so I've decided for every SU card I make I have
to follow up with a non SU card. Mmmm we'll see, you all know how well I am
at keeping up with things, but I'll be giving it a go.

So here is my first. I had so much fun making this card. The egg behind the hens was stamped on DCWV Glitter stack DP (another thing I need to start using up, my non SU DP! LOL) using the egg from the SU set a Good Egg, along with the ditty at the top, "You Crack Me UP". The little butterfly is also a Penny Black stamp. The flowers are left over from a card I made last year and are from the Su set One of a kind, and punched out using the matching punch. As you can see by this photo there was some straw put under the chooks, part of the chooks were raised as were some of the flowers. Each layer was stitched around. Some of the chooks and the centre of the flowers had dimensial added to them to raise the look of them even further.

Like I say I had som much fun making this card. I hope you enjoy looking at it!

Easter Card

Well as you can see by this card, once I started stitching I just couldn't stop!

I bought this set (SU A Good Egg) when the catalogue came out last year
and have to admit have never used it, so I thought I might try and get
some easter cards sent out this year.
The Bashfule Blue was stamped with the little floral stamp from the set
in pretty in Pink, then the centre of the large flowers coloured with the
PIP pen. I then layered the card up with PIP card, and Olive card
which had been corrugated and DP Petals and Paisleys, all of which
were scraps. The egg on the chicken was covered in clear embossing
powder a couple of times to try and give it an eggy look. Behind the chick
was stamped with the flower stamp as well and coloured to match.
I used a couple of punches for the heading as well as around the chick
and some of my scrap ribbon.
Oh Yeah! And lot's and lot's of stitching,
I had a lot of fun making this one and I hope the recipient loves it as much
as I do........

Mmmmm Cake....

Well as I said in an earlier post, I'm trying to get a supply of kids birthday cards

made up. This is a quick one I did with my sister while she was here.

Very Bright.

The card was made using the Happy Birthday wheel. the Crosshatch BG Stamp,

and the set Big Bold Birthday.

Anyway that's probably it for today, I've got meetings all day. Had 4 eaxtra for

tea last night and 5 extra tonight (might have to fire the barbie up!)

Thanks for looking and hope everyone has a great day!

Makeesha Inspiration Challlenge No 5.

Well haven't done any challenges for quite a while so thought I would give Mel'sand Makeesha's a whirl this week. (http://www.makeeshabyl.com.au/index.php/2009/03/13/inskpirations-inspiration-challenge-5-with-some-mojolicious/)

The challenge this week as you can see was an inspiration challenge using
the picture above, and this is what I came up with.

I used SU set Wild Rose which is about to be retired and the sentiment is from
the SU set called Sage Advice which was in one of the mini's last year.
The card is not quite navy, then on Buckaroo Blue using the smaller flower from
the Wild Rose set I stamped that with Buckaroo Blue and the leaves with
Certainly Celery. The same was done with the outside flower but it was top
stamped with Not Quite Navy, it and the sentiment were stamped on Cream
Card and the sentiment was lightly sponged around. Can't see it in the photo
but the flower has been raised.

Thanks again for the challenge Keesh.

Mel's Colour Challenge

Well here is Mel's latest challenge. (http://www.melhanlon.blogspot.com/) It
was to use pretty in pink, bashful blue, whisper white and choc chip.
I am trying to get a store of baby and kids cards going at the moment and as
this set is about to retire, I thought it would be perfect for this challenge.
The bashful blue card has been stamped with the su bg stamp in the bashful blue.

The flowers are from the set (I think Asian Blooms, I have to look it up when

I get home) and stamped onto the pink with choc chip then the centres coloured

with the white gel pen. The giraffe is from the Bundle of Joy set and coloured with

Pastels. The ribbon is choc chip.

Thanks again for the challenge Mel.

Thank You Card

This is a card I made while on holidays at Dundee and have just realised
that I haven't uploaded it. The DP is SU in a pack that I bought of ebay
from the States the year before last and I'm sorry I don't know the name of it.

The card used is chameo coral and the ribbon is old olive as is the inks.
I have also used cream card. The flowers are from the set Eastern Blooms
out of the last mini and the words are from the retiring set Artfully Asian.
I have to say IRL this would have to be one of my favourites and may have
to go in my keep stash.....

Tilly and Jay

I love this photo that was taken while Emma was visiting. My niece Tilly
and my youngest son Jay.

At Last

Wow, I had so much trouble loading pictures onto blogger yesterday.
I had gone in through Picasa and loaded them after they wouldn't
load through blogger. Then when I looked this morning none of the
photo's were there, just little red crosses. So I have spent all morning
re-loading photo's, and still what fun, it ranges between loading them
and dropping out, anyway, they're on there now. Will have another
card for later on.

Station from the Air

Here is a photo of the station in February that Emma
took for me while she was here. Emma does professional
photography and she jumped at the chance to get some
photos from the chopper, as she had never been in one before.
This photo shows all the buildings that have gone in since the
last photo taken from above in June.

This is a photo of some of the country between here and the community
over the wet. A quarter of the way down on the left is the main road.

My Sister's visit

Here is a photo that was taken the day my sister left. I had her
here for 2 weeks and it was great. I got
to give lots of Aunty cuddles, and in between
work, we cooked a few different dishes and
made lots of cards. I'll have to put another
photo of Tilly where she doesn't look quite
so stunned! I miss my sister, it was so great
to have someone around to have a coffee and
chat with and sit down and do some craft together.

Girl Wild About You

And here is the girl one using SU Paper.

Wild About You

This is the boy version of the card and again Blogger
would not let me upload another picture so it is all
done through Picasa and I can only do one to a page.

This card is using the Wild About You set, I'm trying to
get quite a few baby/kids cards made for the year ahead
so I thought I would attempt the same card but one for
a boy and one for a girl.

This DP is Sixth Avenue by American Crafts. All other products
used are SU.

Finally -Here's the card

I'm still having trouble uploading in blogger. I ended up loading this from Picasa.
Maybe it's the new anti-virus software the man put on?

Mel's Retired Challenge

Well I have got a photo for this, but for some reason blogger won't let me upload any photos

at the moment, it just keeps dropping out.

The card is made from the retiring set called Bundle of Joy, which would have to be one of my favourite sets, and I would say it will be sadly missed. I tried to buy it for my sister as soon as I heard it was retiring but missed out.

This card is using certainly celery, cream and pretty in pink. I coloured it in pastels. You probably can't see in the photo, but the pink and celery have been stamped with the little heart and spot set from the background basics set.

I'll keep trying to get the photo up, but in the mean time have emailed it to Mel (hope it gets there in QLD time).

BAD, BAD BLOGGER!

I know, I've been a bad, bad blogger! I make no excuses, I just haven't been in the mood to post.

I have been very busy with people and also creating, so keep checking over the next few days as I have HEAPS of cards to post.
My sister and her georgous baby just stayed for 2 weeks, and it was so great having her here. I am so missing them. She is keen to do a few cards for herself, so we got in and made quite a few while she was here, so she could get a taste for it and get into the swing of it all. It was flooding the first week she was here and we all headed down to the creek each afternoon for a swim. We were running short on fuel for the generator, so we had to have the power off all day to conserve fuel, talk about hot, so we looked forward to a swim every afternoon.

We drove up to Darwin and I put her on the plane at 3.30am GROAN! Then John and I spent the week in Darwin for a work conference. The days were so long, when you are not used to sitting for hours on end. It was great to meet all of the other managers from around Australia and to meet the ILC staff. Some very late nights were had, and us being not used to drinking anymore, were finding it tuff. LOL!

Anyway back to it all, and it's taken me a week to catch up in both sleep and work.......

So that's the latest. Like a say start checking back each day as I have lot's and lot's of new cards, and I'm going to try and get in the swing of some challenges again!
