2 Challenges in 1

Well it's been awhile, talk about time
starved. I have been so
unbelievably
busy and this week is going to be just
as bad, so my regular blog checkers
please be patient with me.
This card was to get 2 challenges done
at once. Leah Weir has a colour
challenge using Tangerine Tango, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss
Whisper White and Regal Rose.
Makeesha Byl has a Sketch Challenge going.
And here is my entry..............

This is the first time I have used this set, and I am really happy with
the way it turned out.

I loved the colours that Leah chose, but I must admit the Regal Rose
had me stumped, it just seemed off with the rest of them, bit hard to
tell in the photo, but I ended up sponging the edges of each flower with
the Regal Rose.
I actually sponged all of the colours onto the stamp, as all of the new
ones don't have pens and it was the only way I could think of to get
the different colours onto the stamp.
The Kiwi Kiss and the Tangerine Tango around the edge have both
been stamped with the grass stamp from the Inspired by Nature set
in Kiwi Kiss, I just felt that it needed it to finish it off. The whisper
white has been backed with the Riding Hood Red and the flower has
as well and then it was also backed with the Tangerine Tango.
I then used the Kiwi Kiss ribbon across the card with a bit of twine
to break the Kiwi Kiss.
Thank you Leah and Makeesha for your challenge.
TFL,

MIA

Sorry to those that keep checking in on me. I just have not had the time to make anything at the moment to post. I made my May swaps on the weekend and that is all I have had time for, and looking at other blogs, it looks like everyone is in the same boat at the moment.......

Anyway I had a bit of a thought this morning, that until I get a chance to whip up something new I'll post some of my old cards that I haven't posted before, which are mainly pre-SU and some of my old scrapbook pages, so then at least I don't feel so bad about having nothing to show.

On the home front, we've started the first round of the mustering for the year and we've already got about 600 weaners, we still have another 3 or 4 paddocks to do. Staff is constantly going walkabout, which makes it hard. We have about 10 training people due here for meetings and signups this week, which will be fun as there is a funeral at Jilkminckon this week, so we will be very lucky if most of them turn up from that. So for the trainers it will be welcome to our world.
We have a friend of ours, Bonnie Young staying with us at the moment, repairing saddles and doing leather classes with some of the fellas which they have enjoyed. Bonnie was 4 times All Round Australian Rodeo Champion in the 60's. Some of the older men here are in awe of him and it is quite funny that asked if he and they can get dressed up for a photo before he moves on.
He is 72 now and would have to be one of the fittest 72 year olds I have ever seen.

Anyway I have to head off to work now, will take some photo's at lunch time of the promised cards and pages so I have something for ya all to look at this week.

Have a good day everyone,
Cheers,
Kristy

A little Cheep Talk..........

Well I got this set as soon as the cattie came out, as I just had to have it.
Then it has just been sitting there looking at me on the desk the whole
time saying "stamp me", "stamp me". So finally yesterday I inked her up.
I wanted to try the set in softer tones and I pretty happy in how it came up.
My base card was bashful blue, then I used DSP Tea Party from the new
catalogue. Other card used was pretty in pink and Certainly Celery and of
course whisper white. Same colours used in ink along with Barely Banana.
The ribbon is the new 5/8"Pink Pirouette striped grossgrain. This ribbon
is so pretty.
As you can see in this shot, I curled the petals of the flower up to give a bit
of dimension.
TFL!
Hope everyone has a great day.

A Bundle of Joy...

Friends of ours had a baby boy a couple of weeks ago, Eli Samuel
and I wanted to make a card to put with the gift we gave them.
I received one of these slide cards from Sharon Turnbull in a swap
lately and thought it would be the perfect time to give it a go with
the baby card.

As you can see I used the alphabet wheel in Bashful Blue Ink on the
bashful Blue card. The pull out tag was done in Buckroo Blue and
also stamped in this colour and for the ribbon I used the stitched
Choc Chip and tied it with a bit of twine.

I used the Giraffe from the retired SU Bundle of Joy set, which seems
to always be the one I drift towards when I have a baby card to do.
Now I have the Pun Fun set now, so might have to have a play with
that for baby cards. The giraffe was coloured using the blender pen
and chalks. I masked the giraffe, then used my print blocks spatter
stamp in Certainly Celery.

When the card slides up the Certainly Celery is underneath and I
stamped this with the Happy New Baby stamp which was in the
retired from last years catalogue hostess set For a Friend. I also
coloured this with the pastels.

Another Swap

Well as you can see this swap is very similar to Todd's card of which I
used for one lot of swaps as I really loved it, and as the second swap
was to different people I thought while I was on a roll and everything
was out I would do this card again. When I got the email with
finalisation on the card, Damn! I had to add a some DSP from the latest
catalogue....... Well didn't that put a spanner in my works. LOL!
Anyway after a bit of thought and a look through my papers, this is
what I came up with. Doesn't look too bad, does it. There was only
one thing wrong I noticed after I took this photo...........do you see what
it is?

I forgot to colour the nostrils and teeth, which makes a world of
difference. I did go and do it and I couldn't be bothered taking
another photo.

Hope everyone enjoys the cards. It has been so much fun receiving
them in the mail each week.

You Rock Todd!

Oh my god, my baby is 16 today!
Here is a photo taken of him in Darwin Hospital at 3 days old, 16 years ago.

And here is a photo of him now, taken by his grandparents whom
he boards with and goes to school in Rockhampton.
I've got to say we are so proud of the young man he's turning
into, and it's amazing how quick that 16 years has gone.
Todd if your reading this I hope you have a great day with
your mate Sam (wagging school) and hope you have fun at
the party tonight. Try not to be too noisy or get up to too
much or you'll give grandad a coronary..........
P.S. Don't let Sam light the bonfire. LOL .. Just joking Sam.
No really, don't let him.....
Todd here is your birthday card!
See I did make you a card, but the mail plane came early and didn't let us
know, so you won't get it for a few days. I even had this made a couple of
weeks early, ready to mail.
I loved this card so much I used it in a couple of swaps lately for
a card using new stamps from the new catalogue. I also used it in
a KW challenge in a previous blog and changed the colours.

Lane's Birthday Card

A man who works for us, his little boy turns 10 today and is having a
birthday party, so I thought I would whip a card for him to take home
to him. I really love how this turned out. I had no idea when I started
all I knew was I wanted to use the rocket from Pun Fun and have a
moon involved, then it evolved from there.
The background card was Tempting Turquoise, I then used Summer
Sun, which I tore around the edges, then came the DSP which is from
the series Loves Me from last years catalogue.
The moon I got some leather look white card that I had, cut the circle
out then put it through the cuttlebug, I then backed it with Taken
with Teal to make it stand out a bit. As you can see in the photo below the
moon is raised. The little rocket was coloured, I then put some Real Red
through the crimper and cut it in strips to look like the heat stream
coming out the back, the rocket was then put on majic mount to look
like it was flying over the moon.
The happy birthday is a Stamp World stamp, I love the boldness of it
which I think is great for kids as makes it easier to see and read. I just
used my markers on this in all of the colours I used on the card, Summer
Sun, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise and Taken with Teal.
Backed it and placed it on the card like it is flying.
The rest speaks for itself, I just cut some stars with the punches and put
them around the card. Can't see it in the photo, but I put a bit of Kindy
Glitz on the rocket to make it stand out a little.

A fish á swimmin.........

My son is so wowed and in love with this card. I've been wanting to have
a go at this card since last year, so when I had the day to myself on mothers
day I made the faux silk one in a previous post and this Gel card. They are
so cute in Real Life, and I can see why kids get a kick out of them. I used
Real red, Brilliant Blue, Sun Yellow, and Glorious Green. As you can see
I cuttlebugged each piece, backed with blue and red then cut circles out of
the other colours. The green is faded in this shot, it is as you know, quite
bright!

Here is a close up of the fish and gel. I had bashful blue card behind, which
I stamped with a Print Blocks splatter stamp, I coloured the fish and cut
him out and raised him with magic mount. Then I followed the instructions
as per splitcoast for the gel.

These cards are so much fun and so easy.

Off to the zoo....

Here is the other card that Lyn and I had a play with on the weekend. This
is another that I received in a swap lately from Brenda Fry and felt compelled
to make one. Lyn wanted to send hers to a little girl, so we changed all of the
colours to pinks and purples.

It is really hard to photo, but you obviously have the front cage then in the
second box we put a purple crocodile (see lots of those around) with grass
behind and stamped leaves above. The back "cage"has a pink elephant and
a palm tree made by using punches. The front of the "cages"is cut out using
a tag punch. What a clever lady Brenda is. Of course because Lyn was on
the make we had to add purple and butterflies.
It was great fun making something different, and I can see little kids loving
these diorama cards.

Here is a view from the top showing the pink elephant and the trees and
flowers. We sponged a sky behind the elephant as well.

Get Well Card for Aunty Biddy

My husband's Auntie Biddy is going into theater today for a quadruple
bypass, so I thought I would make a card for her. I have been wanting
to have a go at the Faux Silk technique for some time, which is dead easy,
so thought this would be the perfect time. As you can
see I used the Embrace Life set from SU. It's really pretty
this set but I haven't used it much, especially the big
flower, I think it's a hibiscus, or maybe a frangipenni, not quite sure,
anyway I love how it turned out. I stamped the leaves
with Stazon onto the tissue paper then coloured with
Green Galore Pen. I then glued this to Whisper
White card then mounted it on GG Card and WW Card.

The DSP is from some of last years papers in a mini called
Ginger Blossom. The rest is pretty straight forward
the flowers were coloured then a pearl
put in the centre of each. The thinking of you was
stamped on whisper white and cut out with the oval punch
then backed with Regal Rose and
the Label Punch. The ribbon was Regal Rose.

Here's a close up of the Faux Silk and flowers.

It is always fun to have
a go at something new.

I actually had a go at a few techniques yesterday, so keep checking in
over the next few days with what I've come up with.

They think they run the show............

"Yes, well Bill thought he was the President, as well!"
Don't you just love this, it made me laugh and I thought I would share it around.

Happy Mothers Day

A Happy Mothers Day to all of those Mothers out there, hope you have
a lovely one. I am on my lonesome, which I don't mind so much as I get
to have the day stamping to my hearts content, but I missed my cup of
coffee in bed, which is the only day of the year I get it there. I have had
a lovely phone call from my son who is away at school and yet to have
one from my youngest, who is probably to busy fishing to remember!

I have seen these cards on quite a few blogs lately and have been
itching to have a play, so when I got one in a swap lately from Pam
Liersch I thought I would have to give it a go. Lyn the Governess came
for a play and we made this and another card, we had such a ball.

Once we started those flowers though, we just couldn't stop and had to
make a special card to send them in.
Close up of the flowers and butterflies.
Inside the card.

Stamps used: Weathered Background, Petal Pizzaz,
Penny Black Butterfly, Occasional Greetings.

The second card was using the new SU set Fifth Avenue Floral,
along with the DSP Urban Oasis. This set is great, you
can make quick cards like above or elaborate cards
by colouring the flowers in. This was fairly quick with
Designer paper top and bottom and Old Olive ribbon
across the centre held down by brads. Both the flowers
are raised up as you can see by the photo below.
The Happy Mothers day stamp is from the
Occasional Greetings set.
I actually cut Kiwi Kiss card out to use on this card and
was in thought on something else when I put it together.
I gotta say I was annoyed with myself when I looked down
and noticed what I had done, I had intended to keep a
border of the Kiwi Kiss around the whole outside, but I'd
quite happily stuck the DSP on without even really thinking
about it. Don't you hate wasting that coloured card!
Anyway I love the way it turned out, it is quietly elegant.
I hope our mothers enjoy them. I know from talking to them
this morning they haven't received them yet. Sniff!

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #51

Kristina Werner's latest color challenge - Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose
More Mustard and Whisper White.
Whipped this up this arv for Kristina's latest colour challenge. Got to be
honest and say I had made a card like this earlier in the day for someone's
birthday but different colours. Love the way it turned out so used the
layout again for Kristina's challenge, with a few small changes.
Mustard is not usually a colour I would go for, but it looks good with the
Regal Rose and Choc Chip. That's why they call them challenges I spose
so you go out of your comfort zone.
The stamp set is Just Jawing, which I love, but must admit haven't seen it
around all that much. With teenagers in the house, figured it would be a
great one for cards for that age as there isn't too much around aimed at
that group. The background is Gratuitous Grafitti, which goes great with
this set, it really sets it off. I also used this on the eyes and stars.

Here is a close up showing how the skull is raised, also the hearts and stars.
The you rock was rolled over a pen and stuck with the curve facing up to
look like it's blowing in the wind.

Kristy

Swaps, swaps and more swaps.............

Sorry for my absence I have been so busy with work that I just
haven't had the time to blog and I've got to be honest that by the
time I get off the computer at work the last thing I feel like doing
is jumping on it again when I get home.
I have been involved in 3 swaps lately which is another reason why
I haven't been blogging on a regular basis, but have now completed
them all so hopefully I can get a few more blogs in through the week.
This is the first blog I played in and I had to make 15 of these cards.
I was really a glutten for punishment with picking this card. I made this
card late last year, and the theme of the swap was make a pop up card,
spiral card, slide card etc, in other words a card that does something.
You can see my original card here.

Above and below shows the amount of cutting out I had to do.............aargh!

And here are the finished cards. I was so glad to get them in the envelopes
and off to everyone. The swaps I have received have been great and it is
terrific to get so many new ideas. There are so many clever people out
there.

Just want to point out that my original card was using DSP, of which I did
not have enough to do all of these cards, so all of the backgrounds were done
using stamps, mainly canvas background and the little flower dot thingy from
Boho Backgrounds. The main stamp set used was The Time Well Spent gift
set we received from SU.
Hope all enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed receiving everyone else's.
luv,
Kristy

Easter at Dundee Beach

Been meaning to load these for a couple of weeks. Here is some fish John and
Jay caught at Dundee Beach over the weekend. It's been great to have the
freezer full of fish.
